1100 E. 5TH STREET

Client: Withheld

One of the primary goals of the design is to reflect the local vernacular, but incorporate a modern interpretation. Located at the intersection of 5th Street and Seaton Street, this building site is connected to one of the most favorable commercial areas in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. The design of the ground floor will reflect and radiate that energy. The articulation of the 5th Street facade invokes a sculptural quality, incorporating a combination of shaped windows and solid walls to create a pattern referred to as ‘the flower.’ The conscious intent of this design is to satisfy the requirement of an art wall, providing “art” to both observers from the street below and residents of the live-work units who will look out of ‘the flower.’
