This site is home to the annual PNB Paribas Open which hosts over 300,000 people and holds a multitude of other events throughout the year. The project goal was to provide support for the large volume of attendees and variety of events.

The physical model and digital model that Douglas Hanson built provided the appropriate tools to design this large-scale addition to the Indian Wells Tennis Center. The climate information embedded in the model facilitated a seamless process to develop spaces that could naturally regulate key climatic elements from the hot summer sun to the cold and windy desert evenings. Hanson and his team developed a series of indoor and outdoor spaces that optimized the shading trellis and windscreens to effectively maintain a comfortable environment for the 500,000 attendees every year.
